Nicolas Hayek turned around the fortunes of Swiss watch manufacturing with the idea that they could compete with Japanese digital watches produced by the likes of Casio by reinventing the watch, or the Swatch as his company became to be known, as a fashion accessory. In later years, through an initial tie up with Volkswagen, the Hayek inspired Smart car, is produced within the Mercedes-Benz Group. WeLoveAnyCar.com has 615 Smart car reviews and their average rating is 4.2. The Smart car received an award for the most economical car in the National Car Awards voted for by WeLoveAnyCar.com car reviewers.
In a considered review of his Smart, one owner on the WeLoveAnyCar.com car review site said, “At first you forgive the 'lag' in the take up from the auto gearbox when pulling away but gradually it becomes more and more annoying and less and less easy to live with, especially when negotiating roundabouts or slowing and then pulling away at a junction. It was the main reason I sold the car. If driven enthusiastically ( but not over the top ) the car returned only 50 m.p.g. - so no better than your average diesel car. Short wheelbase means that the ride is inevitably somewhat 'choppy'. Good points are reliability & fun with open top driving and features like heated seats, electric mirrors & aircon included ! Driving position also excellent with comfortable seats and plenty of space for someone over 6' !” Some of the car reviewers on the site simply say, “This car with no clutch is a dream to drive. Just flick the stick left to right for manual or auto - Simples! It is a real head turner.” Choosing a car is not just about the reliability, economy etc. – it is the ‘fit’ with you as a motorist.
