Renault, in common with many great car makers, owes its formation to a car pioneer; Louis Renault. Unlike many other founding auto trader families, little of the Renault wealth remains as the Company was confiscated by the French Government after the 2nd World War. Renault gave the world the first direct drive system (not chains or belts) and led automotive design in the years between the two great wars. Renault and Nissan now have a collaborative arrangement and the French’s love of their home grown cars has protected the company from the ravages of recession to some extent. Renault does seem to have some issues with some of their models with one Megan reviewer saying, “Electrics are terrible. Cannot be trusted. Repairs are expensive.” Alternatively, another reviewer (of a different Megan model) said, “Being the 130 model, it has very spirited performance while still averaging 47mpg. Has proved to be extremely reliable with mileage now at 130,000. No immediate plans to replace.” Careful study of the WeLoveAnyCar.com car review site clearly shows the differences in the models and, because Renaults tend to be a little cheaper in comparison to other brands, you could find a reliable bargain.
