Maurice Wilks, from his farm in Anglesey, designed the first Land Rover just after the 2nd World War. Wilks was not a farmer – he worked in General Motors in the 1920’s and helped drive the development of the gas turbine engine in the War years. Land Rover has had a rocky history but now that Tata Motors of India now own the company it has seen recent successes and quality of its product improve. WeLoveAnyCar.com has 740 land Rover reviews and the average rating is 4.2. Land Rover is a complex manufacturer and its ownership has changed hands a number of times. Unfortunately the make comes very low in the National Car Awards poll on reliability and other factors. Now that it is being revitalised by Tata ownership, it is fair to say that problems caused by under investment are way behind them. Owing to the problems found in some models (especially particular Freelanders) chose carefully. Use the WeLoveAnyCar.com car review system to investigate which models best suit you, your pocket and your patience. The newer models are much better but certain older models will go on, and on, and on. The reviewers will tell you which ones are best…and worst.
